The Friends of the Animal Shelter board has been working the last couple of months to craft a new mission and vision statement for the organization.
In August of 2013, when the new shelter opened on Old Rosman Highway, the reason FOTAS had been formed came to fruition; the long running goal had been achieved.
In the months that followed the opening, FOTAS established a Membership group who, through annual dues, will continue to support the new shelter by providing for the purchase of significant capital items. These purchases include:
New phone repeaters and radios for the Animal Control Officers
New animal containment units on all three trucks, as required by state law
A security camera system at the shelter
Training for AOC officers
Several microchip scanners
Now that the shelter is up and running the group is refocusing on new goals and determining how it could best serve the animals in the county and still support the shelter.
In February, a workshop was held and a new Mission Statement was crafted:
FOTAS: Improving the lives of animals in Transylvania County
The Vision statement spells out how the Mission will be supported:
By the year 2020, we will significantly reduce the euthanasia rate and improve the overall health of Transylvania County dog and cat populations.
We will accomplish this by funding focused spay/neuter programs and by providing preventative/routine care for those animals who are underserved.
We will directly support the animal shelter, as needed, and concentrate our efforts to give the greatest benefit to the Transylvania County Animal Shelter.
FOTAS will keep supporters and donors posted on how this new mission will take form very soon. It will continue to need the community’s support and volunteer time to accomplish this very important project. Input is welcome. Please contact FOTAS at email@example.com
