It is surprising what people will do for the love of animals! Many hearty individuals braved the cold and celebrated pre-Valentine’s Day at the Proper Pot, located at 36 West Main St. in Brevard. The annual Friends of Transylvania Animals (FOTAS) wine tasting and auction fund drive was held on February 13th to raise money and awareness on the importance of spaying and neutering pets.
Larry and Beth Canady, owners of the Proper Pot, hosted the Valentine wine-tasting event to support FOTAS. Mayor Jimmy Harris conducted the auction of fine wines and artwork with, of course, many attention-grabbing stories and great humor. Attendees sampled a variety of delicious refreshments provided by the Proper Pot, as well as, enjoying shopping for their favorite cooking supplies, gift baskets and more.
FOTAS has turned it mission to actively promoting spay and neuter to reduce pet overpopulation after successfully assisting with raising funds to build the local shelter.
FOTAS does this by providing $10 vouchers to Transylvania County residents to have their pets sterilized. The vouchers may be obtained from the animal shelter and various fund raising events throughout Transylvania County. Call 883-3713 for information about the program or to obtain directions to the shelter, which is located at 1124 Old Rosman Highway.
Fundraisers such as the one held at the Proper Pot and individual donations provide the financial basis to raise awareness for the spay/neuter program to reduce overpopulation by providing a non-lethal solution and contribution to animals long term health and well-being.
