History

Brief History:

2004 Committee formed to study the needs for a new animal shelter

2005 County Board of Commissioners set aside $300,000 for the Project

2006 Needs commitment study completed and County sets aside additional $450,000 for the project

2007 County contracted architects to design shelter

2008 Architectural plans completed

2010 Site Selection

2011 Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) was formed to raise the $350,000 additional needed to build the Animal Shelter

2012 Ground Breaking

2013 FOTAS reached its fundraising goal of $350,000 was reached in January. New shelter opened in August

2014 The board of the Friends of the Animal Shelter became Friends of the Transylvania Animals which reflects our new focus on reducing the number of animals requiring sheltering by turning its attention to county wide spay/neuter programs.

2015 FOTAS designates October 2015 FREE spay and neuter month and successfully issues over 580 vouchers to Transylvania County residents.
