She graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo and furthered her education at North Carolina State University with a degree in textile technology. Employed by the US Navy as a civilian employee, she oversaw the research, development, test and evaluation of Navy dress, utility and working clothing until her retirement in 2013. Seeking to escape the brutal northeast winters and traffic, she relocated to North Carolina and has happily settled in Connestee Falls. Deb is a volunteer at the local shelter and assists in the never-ending rescue of dogs and cats. She is currently owned by two spoiled cats and enjoys the natural beauty of Brevard.

She worked as a diplomat overseas for 25 years in Africa, Latin America, and India, always traveling with her cats. She moved to Brevard in 2005 and is under the adult supervision of her cat, Gustavo, who holds the fort when she travels overseas as a consultant for the Department of State. A vegetarian, she identifies with animals and the FOTAS mission to improve the health of Transylvania County animals.

She graduated from Florida State in 1960 with a degree in English. Moved to Atlanta, where she was a legal secretary for 8 years. She has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. The Briggs lived in Milan, Italy for 1 1/2 years when her husband was on an assignment with IBM. They returned to Atlanta from 1971-2010, when they became “full-timers” in Brevard. Sandy stays overly-active in volunteer, church and civic activities. She has always loved animals since childhood. Continue Barb Andreassen, Board Member. Barbara was born in New York City and grew up in northern New Jersey. She graduated from Montclair State University in 1974 with a degree in English, but pursued a career in the chemical industry. In 1982 there was an opportunity to move to Charlotte NC with her company. Barb and her husband Phil of 42 years moved to Brevard in 2001. Always an animal lover, Barb showed horses for over 20 years. She and Phil now enjoy their westie Nikki and three parrots.

A long time animal lover, Judy is now a foster for Charlie’s Angel Animal Rescue. “It is so rewarding to be the bridge from the life they had to the life ahead. To watch them blossom with love and caring. Is it hard to let them go? Yes. But fostering truly saves lives.” She is the “parent” to three dogs and two cats of her own. In addition to her work with FOTAS and her fostering, Judy works for Noah’s Arc Spay and Neuter Clinic part time and volunteers there on surgery days.
Tina Schonhaut, Board Member. Tina was born in Miami, FL and grew up in Havana, Cuba until she came back to US in 1960. She attended Coral Gables High School. She has lived in New York, New Jersey and moved to Brevard in 2005. At that time she was working from home and she was able to start the “dog park” in Connestee. Tina retired five years ago and currently volunteers at the animal shelter.
Suzanne Fox, Board Member. Suzanne works as a volunteer with local groups, fostering and assisting rescue animals. Before retiring, she worked for Eastern Airlines and American Airlines and the Airborne Express Courier Co. From Atlanta), she has a B.A. in Mass Communications from Mercer University and has worked as a Customer Services Supervisor, Trainer and Automation Specialist. She and her husband bought property in Brevard in 2003 and are building a home.
Tipanay Flagg, Board Member. Tipanay is originally from Orlando, Florida and relocated to Brevard in 2001. A great lover of all living creatures, she has rescued and rehabilitated many animals. This love propelled her to open “The Grateful Dog”, a small, independent holistic pet supply store in Brevard, NC. Tip is an avid supporter of the animal shelter and has three rescue dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, tending to her chickens, and gardening.
